AM22-58-O - AM22-58-O: (On-Demand) Leveraging Your Data Through Replication and Warehousing to Meet Your Blood Bank and Transfusion Service Needs (Enduring)

‐ Nov 7, 2022 6:00pm

Expiration Date: Dec 31, 2024

Credits: None available.

Big data fuels many business activities, decision making, and service offerings across industries. Blood banking and transfusion medicine have massive amounts of data collected on donors, blood donations, product manufacturing and distribution/supply chains, and transfusion administration. Because this data is captured and stored in transactional systems such as the laboratory information system(LIS) or Blood Establishment Computer System, the use of this transactional data to drive discovery or process improvements and create shared visibility is hampered. We will discuss the approach and business case for replication of LIS data tables as well as several operational and clinical examples of using data replicates for reporting. We will convey the approach for designing integrated data warehouses to meet specific clinical and operational use cases for your practice with examples from patient blood management, blood product manufacturing, and rare blood unit inventory management.

All relevant financial relationships have been mitigated.

Learning Objectives:

  • describe the business case for leveraging data replication to provide data sources for blood bank and transfusion service analyses and reports
  • discuss the relationship between business/clinical use case and data warehouse design
  • identify clinical and operational blood bank and transfusion medicine use cases that data replication and warehouses can facilitate or empower
